Boy and Girl  (10-18-09)

The little boy stood outside the storefront
Counting his money
You see, he wanted to buy a gift
for the girl right down the street

A woman on a park bench watches from afar
alongside the yellow fire hydrant
is a man waiting for the bus to come
The street is filled with slow paced cars

At the stop light sits a couple thinking about God
and wondering how the rent will get paid

the little boy walks inside
Overwhelmed by the bright colors to his left
Doesn't know what a 9 year old girl likes

His eyes begin to glow as he looks down the aisle
He starts to think
maybe he should buy something for himself instead

A sleep deprived man 2 rows over
begins to read a mens health magazine
The subscription card slowly floats to the floor

The woman at the counter is wondering if her shift will ever end

The boy picks up a teddy bear covered in pink
He smiles as he envisions a great big smile on her pretty face
He pays the fee with little left over

Walks home hoping she doesn't reject his gift
An old woman walking her dog looks him over
With great approval she smiles and wishes him well

Afraid to give her the bear
He waits outside
hoping she notices him bent over the fence
She walks up to him
He smiles and gives her the gift
With a great shyness, she takes it and smiles

He slowly turns away as she walks inside full of smiles
Hoping to see him again come tomorrow
