I tore the skin off the apple
one quick bite
and I was on my way
with the fruit of the earth beneath my feet

With full pockets and full heart
I felt the soft summer air piercing my skin
Is love a lost art I can no longer see

I was born for more than this
With the season of joy on end
along with the dead birds my dog has killed
I want so much more than this

With comforting words locked outside my door
With one slim blade of grass keeping summer in my heart
The flickering spirit of another is in tow
With the eye of the day slowly pushing me away

Hard and dry are my feelings here to stay
The cloudy sky is blocking the stars that want to shine free
With the glowing gloom network t.v. wants to sell me
I move forward with more than a wish and a prayer

I wait for more than a blank presence to enter my heart
With no trade-backs I want to feel complete openness
Like the brilliance a pet brings the owner
I will always let that light shine through

I've been planning and praying for this day to come
Tonight I will sleep well within my sheets
And I will dream about the real possibility
That my happy ending is on its way
