Here lies a list of some of my favorite albums. Over the years I have become attached to quite a long list of albums. In time I hope to share them all with you. I have a unique personal taste in music. Which floats all over the musical landscape. My ultimate goal is that some of you will get turned onto to some of these great unknown artists. That are out there going un-noticed by mainstream media. Many of these albums are essential albums that would make any music collection that much closer to being complete.
   

The Dandy Warhols- Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia

Imagine a friend gives you the address for a mysterious underground party. Upon arriving, you glide through a velvet curtain while the Dandy's "Godless" chimes through the speakers, setting the scene for the warped and surreal atmosphere. As the seamless transition into "Mohammed" clouds the dark space, it's clear your friend is a no-show and that your cocktail was spiked with a heavy dose of chemical enhancements. As the effects intensify, the volume is turned up for "Nietzsche", and the beautiful faces around you turn sinister.     Continue

 

 

Green River Ordinance- Under Fire

Under Fire is independent followup to Green River Ordinance's 2009 major label debut Out of My Hands. Without major label backing GRO has to create a worthy follow up to an album that created a great deal of hype the band garnered from their debut, which had songs featured on numerous shows, and the single Out of My Hands even charted twice on Billboard Adult Top 40 list. Under Fire does a great job as a follow-up to a great album, and should help make GRO a household name.     Continue

 

 

Pompton Lakes- Rest

Pompton Lakes formed in 2011 and released their debut album "Rest" at
the end of 2012. Somehow I just recently stumbled across them. From the opening few seconds of "Home" it was apparent to me that this was going to be an inspiring song and just maybe the rest of the songs would follow suit. Well, the boys of Pompton Lakes have managed to produce a debut album of real emotional depth.   Continue

 

 Paper Route- Absence

It's tough not to sound like a pretentious music elitist when you are discussing something you feel very passionate about. So, if I come across as one right now, I apologize right off the bat. If you can't find something to like in Paper Route, then you don't appreciate good music. It's even tough for me to try to convey my thoughts on this album when I can't even fully comprehend how complex it is.  Continue

 

Imperial Teen- Feel The Sound

Who knew the former Faith No More keyboardist Roddy Bottum had an itch for pop gems? In the late-90s, the super-indie group, Imperial Teen, first came to the scene with their critically acclaimed 1996 Seasick, emassing further notice on the wings of the danceable, attitude-lade hit "Yoo Hoo." which appeard in multiple movie spots, eg. Not Another Teen Movie and Jawbreaker.    Continue

 

Anberlin- Cities

Over the course of their history as a band, ANBERLIN has always just been there. They quietly released a solid debut in the form of Blueprints For The Black Market, followed it up with another generally good album with Never Take Friendship Personal, and are now banking their continued existence on Cities, their latest twelve-track album for Tooth And Nail.   Continue

 

Red Hot Chili Peppers- By The Way

If the Red Hot Chili Peppers have come to realize anything over a career of nearly 20 years, then it's that enough shallowness eventually starts to make you pretty deep. Over that time there have been drugs, there have been girls, and there have almost certainly been parties now we find the group in the unenviable position of surveying the aftermath, and trying to clear up the mess.  Continue

 

NEEDTOBREATHE- The Outsiders

NeedToBreathe released its third album, The Outsiders, in 2009. Innovative and catchy without being hollow, The Outsiders captures the essence of a new alternative rock sound fused with old-time folk.Continuing the quality demonstrated in their earlier albums, Daylight (2006) and The Heat (2007).

The Fray- How To Save A Life

Here comes a band that is destined to become a house hold name. This is their first major label release. It's packed with plenty of hits. If their was a problem it's that they sound too much like the golden boys of Coldplay. What I like more about The Fray is that unlike Coldplay they are more willing to rock out.
For example they really use the soft to roar method great on the song "Fall Away." And "Little House" never stops with the aerial assault. Continue

 

A Tribe Called Quest- The Low End Theory

If A Tribe Called Quest had stopped with their first album, People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm, they'd still be regarded as a seminal hip hop act. For one summer in 1990, alongside the strains of Madchester, the streets resounded to the sound of "Can I Kick It?" and "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo".   Continue
