Here is a list of some of my favorite albums. Over the years I have become attached to quite a long list of albums. In time I hope to share them all with you. I have a unique personal taste in music. Which floats all over the musical landscape. My ultimate goal is that some of you will get turned onto to some of these great unknown artists. That are out there going un-noticed by mainstream media. Many of these albums are essential albums that would make any music collection that much closer to being complete.
   

 Future Of Forestry- Young Man Follow

Having become a huge fan of Future of Forestry over the last three years, my expectations for the latest album were high to say the least if not, for FOF, unattainable. Admittedly, in my eyes (and ears) they can really do no wrong. And when I heard new music was coming from them the excitement was barely containable as this album was delayed from what was to be a Fall 2011 release date.  Continue

 

 

Nada Surf- Weight is a Gift

Before I write anything, you must understand how much I love Nada Surf's previous album, "Let Go". I would certainly put it in my Top 20 favorite albums of all-time. Whenever you have a situation like that, you cross your fingers that their next album can be nearly as good. Well, I would go so far to say it's better, but in a different way.  Continue

 

 

Hammock- Stranded Under Endless Sky

Well what do ya know. Hammock is back with another great release.
Hammock are a band who completely surround the listener with sound.
I could only imagine how large they would sound in concert. There is
a nice uncomplicated feel to their music. Even though it's quite
complex. A lot of bands could really benefit from learning that trick
from these guys. The listening of their music is an experience

Derek Webb- Mockingbird

"Mockingbird" is Derek Webb's latest love potion: a mirror, emetic, and trail mix for the Christian wandering this modern landscape. A very consistent effort, it examines personal and societal obligations through the lens of love. Surprisingly engaging, it boasts a number of songs worth adopting.  Continue

 

 

Luxury- Health & Sport

What do we expect of Luxury in 2005? The correct answer would be good music. They never disappoint. Health and Sport is no exception. It's been a very long wait for this new album. I personally never thought we would hear from them again. It's a good thing I was wrong.  Continue

 

 

Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream

The best compliment to give this true work of art is that it means more and more with each listen. For the past 15 years I don't think a month or two goes by when this album doesn't work it's way back to my CD player only to be rediscovered. Kind of a weird thing to say right....? If listened to THAT often how can it be "rediscovered". The answer of course lies within the complexity of the songs on the album, the placement of the songs on the album, and the moods the album takes the listener through.   Continue

 

 

Other Desert Cities- On The Verge Of Collapsing

IIt's not too often that I stumble across a grouping of songs that
absolutely leave me breathless. Well guess what? It has happened
once again. When I listen to "On the verge of collapsing" I imagine
myself sitting on the front porch. Of my family's cabin up in the
mountains, sipping on some hot chocolate with a nice fire rambling

Stone Temple Pilots- Purple

When Stone Temple Pilots hit it big in 1993 with their debut "Core", the band's rather obvious attempt to align its image with the then-popular grunge scene earned them derision. However, once you looked beyond frontman Scott Weiland's dyed hair, goatee, and somewhat Eddie Vedder-esqe vocals (although it was more due to their mutual appreciation of the Doors), songs like "Plush", "Sex-Type Thing", and the almost joyous grinding pop-metal of "Wicked Garden" all indicated that the band had a canny understanding of hard arena rock.   Continue

 

 

The Autumns- Angel Pool

The Autumns' debut album, Angel Pool, is an entrancing set of dream-pop that draws heavily from the swelling feedback of My Bloody Valentine and the ethereal harmonies of the Cocteau Twins. Often, the group's sound takes precedence over their songwriting, but it's hard not to get swept up along with the cascading sound.  This is a great album.  Sleeping At Last- Ghosts

For most people, the name Sleeping at Last won't strike a bell. At least not yet. Hailing from the Chicago music scene where they have developed a strong local following, Sleeping at Last is poised to turn heads and attract a large crowd of listeners with their first major label release on Interscope.
